Cycle Hamilton’s vision is that Hamilton is the best place for anyone to ride a bike. Our mission is to make Hamilton a city where people of all ages and abilities can safely get around by bike to all parts of the city. Together with residents, communities, organizations, and the City of Hamilton, we encourage a cycling culture that is inclusive, fun, and inspires people to ride their bikes in a growing network of connected, safe bike lanes, routes, and infrastructure throughout the city.
Role of the Board of Directors
Cycle Hamilton is a volunteer-run organization. As such, the Board of Directors plays an active role in both the governance and operations of the organization. The Board meets on a monthly basis, and additionally operates informal sub-committees focused on operations and specific projects. Directors take on a varying workload based on their capacity and interests, with a minimum commitment of 5 hours per month. There are numerous roles available that take on larger workloads and responsibilities, such as Co-Chairs, Treasurer, and Project Leads.
The Board of Directors implement the vision and values of Cycle Hamilton by acting as a voting member of the Board in its full authority and responsibility to: develop policies for the operation of the organization, monitor the organization’s financial health, programs and overall performance and provide the organization’s management and staff with the resources needed to serve the organization’s members.

- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a member of Cycle Hamilton. There are a number of membership options available, including a free “Buddy” membership – registration can be found here.
Board Needs: We are looking for individuals who are willing and able to contribute to the organization in any of the areas listed below:
- Co-chair: Lead the meetings and operations of the Board of Directors, act a spokesperson for the organization, and manage the strategic and operational direction.
- Membership lead: Act as a primary point of contact for members, in addition to organizing membership engagement initiatives and the membership signup process.
- Communications lead: Manage Cycle Hamilton social media, assist with website/newsletter content creation, and coordinate media requests.
Please note that special consideration will be given to any member of an under-represented community.
Timeline and Selection Process
Cycle Hamilton is looking to fill 3 seats on the Board of Directors by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 22 2021.
The current Cycle Hamilton Board of Directors will be providing a recommendation list based on the current needs outlined above.
Apply by Wednesday July 14, 2021, 11:59pm. All candidates will be notified by July 20 and successful candidates will be presented at the AGM on July 22.

Board member not the right fit for you? There are other ways to get involved! Cycle Hamilton is looking for 3-5 volunteers to lead a new advocacy committee. The advocacy committee will monitor investments in cycling infrastructure in Hamilton, report to the board on those investments and write related blogs and media articles on a quarterly basis. If interested in joining the advocacy committee, email firstname.lastname@example.org by July 14 with your name and a summary of relevant qualifications. The committee will require a time commitment of approximately five hours per month.
